Concept / illustration / Design
As part of the Tinderbox Collective Storytelling exhibition the idea was to put together a collection of work based around stories. I looked into myths and legends for inspiration, especially those that originated from North Yorkshire, where I come from.
I chose the story of the Barghest - a massive black dog of ill omen. I planned and then constructed the illustration in Photoshop from lots of hand rendered elements, which I produced with pen, paint and fax paper to list a few.
The final illustration had all the moodiness I was after and worked well within the collection for the exhibition. It was also selected to be included in Semi-Permanent, an annual book which promotes illustrators around the world.
