Concept / Branding / Design / Art Direction
Create a brand for a bar and kitchen, which would be part of the HOAX hostel in Liverpool, but also a brand in its own right.
The client wanted a playful name that they could make their own and we decided HOPSKOTCH was perfect, as it also worked with the mix and match decor and the tapas style food. I decided to use a hand-cut block printing process to give a random organic style, which would look similar, but not the same as, HOAX.
Using the hopscotch game grid as a starting point, I converted the squares into triangles as they felt more dynamic and had more purpose. The colour pallet was influenced by exotic foods and Asian neon signs, to give the brand a rowdy and vivid feel. By mixing the block colour with crops of food, drink and locations around the world, you really get the pick and mix spirit that is the core idea of the brand.
The final result is a mosaic of colours which lets the brand change and move with tastes and times.
